![]() The kite is attached by an 800-meter tether to a ground station contained in a shipping container. Its production model consists of a soft, steerable kite up to 180 square meters in area. In 2021, Hamburg-based SkySails Power became the first company to offer a commercial product. ![]() But small versions are already on the market. Most companies are working on relatively small pilot projects, and none have scaled up their technology to the megawatt range that would make them comparable to conventional wind turbines. And it will need to demonstrate that it is safe, won’t harm wildlife and won’t create intolerable noise and visual disturbances for neighbors.Īt the moment, kite power is in its infancy. “If you have all those advantages, why would anyone build a conventional wind turbine?”īut to become a widespread source of electricity, airborne wind energy, as it’s also called, needs to overcome a number of technological and commercial hurdles, as Bauer and colleagues describe in an upcoming paper in the 2022 Annual Review of Control, Robotics and Autonomous Systems. The carbon footprint is also much smaller, he says. “It’s cheaper to manufacture, cheaper to transport and also has higher efficiency,” says Florian Bauer, co-CEO and chief technology officer of Kitekraft, a Munich-based company developing a kite power system. ![]() Kites might also be a better choice for offshore wind power, and one day could even replace at least some anchored towers now in use. If they succeed, kites could make it possible to build wind farms on land that isn’t windy enough for conventional wind turbine towers. ![]() Flying massive kites 200 meters or more above the ground, companies are using the wind they find there to generate electricity.Īt least 10 firms in Europe and the United States are developing variations of this kind of kite power. Do not fret, for this is truly a treat for the mind.Any kid who’s ever flown a kite has learned the lesson: Once you can get the kite off the ground and high into the air, you’re more likely to find a steady breeze to keep it aloft.Ī fledgling wind power industry is taking that lesson to heart. For I have assumed despair and know all the forms it can take. I write this for the depressed as I write for all. The plot is made to seem all to real to the fact that it makes you fear what a human in itself can do. All I can say for this is that you wouldn't want to miss it. It does help that the story in itself is diverse in ways people like myself may not even begin to fathom. It's purpose is made vividly clear in its end, and I will tell you for sure you will ask yourself what it means to be human at the end. The psychological genre is a cruel one and one might say it is not for everyone. Not much manga are able to prove their point as well as this. Disguising itself in a short 12 chapter adaptation is a story with god tier art, characters, and story telling. Honestly speaking, I don't know where to begin with this piece of art. I give it an 8 because I feel like I've seen better takes on this topic, but not in manga though (yet).Īlbert Einstein once said 'Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the universe.' This manga does not display the stupidity of humankind but rather the brilliance the literature they produce can entail. It could be a 10/10, or not for you, depending what you were looking to get out of it. The manga is well illustrated and reads very well. Nobody is as great as Yozo, but everyone has their strengths and chance at happiness that will ultimately be robbed of when going down this path. It is that perfection that makes a point about mental illness: That it could happen to anyone. To his perfection gets added a dose of psychological trauma which will be the source of conflict that spins his life out of control despite how easy good things happen to him.įrom trauma, to depression, to despair, to addictions, to paranoia, to ruin, a progression that feels very real that touches your deep fibers even if the character originally felt too perfect to be The character, Yozo Oba, is young, rich, charismatic, talented, good-looking, sensitive, and innocent, much too perfect to see yourself in, but kind of an "I wish I was like that" character. Not really a story but more of a character exposé.
