Those of you that join me on this blog will find the thoughts, feelings and ideas that this journey generates for me. I am most certainly not perfect, and far from where I would like to be at in my life, but it is a journey along many roads, and with many adventures and tribulations along the way. As an individual I have learnt over time to have an appreciation for things I never quite understood before I was subjected to the big bad world. ![]() I am proud to be a part of this community, and proud of my heritage. That is not to say that they are academically perfect, but they have a practical knowledge that sets them aside as being unique in their ability to take what they learn around them and apply it to their own circumstances to adapt and be successful in ways other societies cannot. I was educated in a country that has a record internationally as having a society that are regarded as being the most highly educated people in Africa. Measured success has come from individuals that learnt to apply themselves through hard work and the ability to see an opportunity and apply themselves accordingly. True visionaries have learnt in this claustrophobic society of the first world to think outside the box. What is the purpose of going to university to become a travel agent? Why spend years educating yourself to sell yourself short at the first hurdle. There is no sense of pride in achievement and everyone follows a set pattern because it is unthought-of to break societies trends. Slomo left Orchestra Mberikwazvo early this year to work with the Dendera Kings after being offered a lucrative contract.īorn and educated in Zimbabwe, Africa, I grew up with in an environment much different from the one that I find I now live in. I also give them the platform to perform some of those dances that I am not yet familiar with,” he added. “We give each other space and when we perform live shows I usually dance with Gwanzura because some band members are not yet familiar with the new dances. Slomo said he is working together with Tafadzwa Silver Gwanzura, a former member of Utakataka Express, in teaching other band members new dances. “I did not face any challenges in learning the new dances since I can dance rhumba, kwaito and mbira, among others,” he said. Slomo said he had not experienced any difficulties in learning the new dances from the Dendera Kings as he claims to be a talented artiste who is able to adapt to every dancing style. ![]() “I relate well with the rest of the band members and so far every thing is cool,” added Slomo. We discuss everything and give each other advice. Slomo said he has a good working relationship with both his employer – Sulumane Chimbetu – as well as other band members. “My colleagues are very happy with my contribution and every time I introduce a new dance they are all eager to learn it and even the fans have given me a new nickname ‘Slomo Musoro’ after the slow motion dance I do using my head,” he said. ![]() Slomo said the response that he is receiving from both his colleagues and fans shows that he is doing well. “We are doing things uniformly, I have already introduced some new dances to the group and very soon I will also unveil another new dance called ‘coconut dance’,” he said. Slomo has already introduced some new dances to his Dendera Kings apart from doubling as the leader of choreographs.
